Paul Thompson, Ph.D.
Professor of Neurology
Laboratory of Neuro Imaging

Paul ThompsonDr. Thompson is involved in developing advanced mathematical models and software engineering tools for scientific computing, numerical analysis and 3D graphics. His statistical and mechanical models (random field theory, active surfaces, deformable templates, 3D elastic and fluid image deformation algorithms) are applied to neuroimaging and neurogenetics data. Parallel and large-scale programming, Grid supercomputing applications and novel software design techniques are utilized in the model development, implementation, testing, validation and visualization. Dr. Thompson is the PI of two CCB Driving Biological Projects (DBPs) – Mapping Brain Changes in HIV/AIDS, and Mapping Brain Changes In Alzheimer’s & Those at Risk.
